After many bridal shows and many discussions with soon-to-be-brides there are as many reasons some give for NOT having a video of their wedding as there are brides. Some people really dont care about pictures or video for that matter. But for the most part people really dont know what EXACTLY a wedding video is.
I have talked to people who were days away from getting married and were going to let a “friend of the family” run a camera. Some I have talked into getting one professionally done and NONE of them have regretted it. I have, on the other hand, heard many brides say they regretted not getting one. Am I bragging about my work? Well, yea, a bit, but it could be any professional videographers work! Any professional videographer will work very hard to produce something that they will treasure! It is so much more than just “running a camera”. Once the event is over you cannot go back and recapture it. We take all those moments and put it into a creative framework in a way that honestly looks like a movie! So, really, what would there be to be disappointed about?
You have to, of course, be sure you are dealing with a professional, but once that is determined, you are on the road to getting something that will become a part of your family. I have had so many people say that they had no idea how much they would love it. Seeing people you dont know get married when you see the videographers work just doesnt have the same effect as watching it when its your family on YOUR wedding day… with all the funny and wonderful things that happen during that day!
You would never consider having a wedding without a photographer, and you should always have one. We are not in competition with photographers, our craft is very different. You cannot hang a video or put one in your wallet. But you cant HEAR a picture. You cant see someone move and listen to the way they sound or capture the essence of the person in movement any other way like you can through video. At some point some of the people at your wedding will not be with you any longer. How valuable would it be to have them captured in sight and SOUND.
So many brides who only got a video because their mom wanted one have since come back and said that we gave them the best gift they recieved. One day when you have children, they will be able to see and HEAR you, the way you sounded and looked on the day you got married, as if they were there themselves. We wont even talk about grandchildren! But the point is that generations from now they will SEE and HEAR how you were on your wedding day! That’s just cool!
